Rome

St Peter's PiazzaCouldn’t resist this one.

Again from San Pietro’s Piazza (or, St Peter’s Square) and the changing of the guard.  The Swiss Guards are a most impressive sight, wearing a variety of costumes, depending on their activity and the occasion.

Much shouting and pomp and ceremony – it was a real treat to be there for this.  I like this photograph because in the distance (I think it’s the Borgo Santo Spirito) on one of the hills of Rome, the distinctive Umbrella Pine trees are clearly visible.

When we visited we were unsure what these trees were called, so it’s good to finally be able to put a name to them.  Despite working for the department that I do (with a bunch of arboriculturists and harboriculturists) – it’s taken almost a year to ID – and then only thanks to Google!

Piazza Navona, Rome

Welcome to my blog

I’m not entirely sure yet as to the content of this blog.  I may just use it as a ‘storage dump’ for my favourite photographs, music, artwork, quotes, authors or sketches etc.

The image at the top of the page is one that I took on a recent trip to Rome, Italy.  Watching the world go by at the Piazza Navona.   I absolutely adore Rome.

There’s something for everyone there, whether interested in history, art, culture or just food and good wine.
